PGV will host an open house and public comment meeting on June 1, 2023, to provide information on the DEIS and take comments.

On May 8, 2023, the draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) was published. Public comment period is open until June 22, 2023.

Pending government approval, PGV and Hawaiian Electric have negotiated an amended contract that will regulate power generation at the PGV plant through the year 2052. The Public Utilities Commission, in conjunction with the County of Hawai‘i Planning Department, have requested that PGV prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) in conjunction with consideration of the new contract.

The meeting will be held at the Pahoa Neighborhood Center, 15-2906 Pahoa Village Road, Pāhoa, HI 96778.

We have recently discovered an article in a peer-reviewed scientific journal describing structural controls which influenced the evolution of the 2018 eruption.

Puna Geothermal Venture, looking to increase power production at its facility near Pohoiki, has published an Environmental Impact Statement Preparation Notice in the July 23 edition of The Environmental Notice.

This report is the product resulting from analysis of USGS/HVO monitored earthquakes for all of 2018 with a focus on May 2018 and geochemical analysis from UH Hilo published in Science Magazine. All earthquake data and accompanying analysis are stated in UT (Universal Time) unless otherwise noted.

Sara Steiner is working on a case for the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals against the State of Hawaii Department of Health and Puna Geothermal Ventures to ensure that PGV has to shut down and perform a thorough and modern EIS and prove their cumulative impacts do not harm the Lower East Rift Zone in a pressurized Kilauea volcano.

The research article discusses the discovery of dacite melt during the drilling of an injection well at the Puna Geothermal Venture wellfield in Hawaii.

Some examples include precious metal deposits like gold and silver, base metal deposits such as copper and lead, as well as certain types of hydrothermal mineral deposits like epithermal veins and porphyry deposits.

The specific mineralization associated with dacite melt is influenced by factors such as the composition of the melt, temperature, pressure, and availability of fluids and mineralizing agents in the surrounding rock.
